Geoprocessing

With the Geoprocessing panel on the Sidebar, you can execute certain processes that have been stored in your ERDAS APOLLO system, and you can view the results of those processes.

The Processes list sub tab shows all of the processes that you have access to in the Geospatial Portal Web Client. Each of the nodes that you see in the tree is a process category. If you open the process category node, you will see the processes themselves.

To execute a process in the Geospatial Portal:

  1. Locate the process in the list on the Processes List sub tab. Double click on it to select it, or click on it and click Select. Another sub tab – Selected – will appear in the Geoprocessing tab. The Selected sub tab generally has two sections: the first section with a detailed description of the process and a second section with input fields for the chosen process.

light_bulb_icon The exact fields in the Input Data section vary depending on the process that you are trying to execute.

Additionally, the GeoProcess Complex Inputs sub tab will open on the Search Results panel. This tab shows the datasets that meet the criteria to use as reasonable inputs for the selected process.

light_bulb_icon If the process was added to the system after you began your Web Client session, you need to click Refresh to update the processes list with the most current information. The Refresh button is located in the lower-right corner of the Processes List sub tab. The Refresh button restores the original state of the tree (folds all branches).

  2. Fill out the fields in the Input Data section. The exact fields in the Input Data section vary depending on the process that you are trying to execute. The input data requirements are determined by the author of the process model when he or she designs it in ERDAS IMAGINE.

Specifying the Input Data - The fields at the top of the section are generally the ones where you will indicate the coverages to be processed.

When you select a process on the Processes List sub tab, Geospatial Portal automatically filters the coverages that you have access to and identifies the ones that match the constraints established by the process author. Therefore, the coverages are suitable as input for this process. These coverages are shown on the (inputs) tab in the Search Results panel.

If there are multiple input fields, the appropriate coverages for each field are shown in separate sub tabs in the Search Result panel. For example, if there are two data input fields, Input Before LANDSAT Coverage and Input After LANDSAT Coverage, each field has its own tab in the Search Result panel.

To select a coverage to be the input, select the desired item in the Search Result panel, and then select an appropriate input field name from the combo box in the action bar of the Search Result panel.

Specifying Other Process Options - Many of the other fields are simple text boxes in which you can type your information. If you have a field that requires you to specify a color, the field will be accompanied by a button that opens a color picker dialog box.

If you have a field that requires you to select a bounding box, it will be accompanied by the Draw Box and Reset buttons. If you click the Draw Box button and draw your bounding box on the map, Geospatial Portal will place the correct values for the box in the field for you. If you are not satisfied with the bounding box settings, you can click Reset to clear the field and start over.

  3. When you are satisfied with the settings you entered for the Input Data, click Execute. The My Processes tab opens, and the new process is shown at the top of the list. The Completion field indicates the progress of the process execution. When “100%” appears in the Completion field, the execution is complete.

The Status field indicates whether the process was finished with success or not. The processes are shown in order from the most recently executed to the less recently executed.

The My Processes tab also shows the names, dates, and categories of the executed processes. An URL to the catalog that now contains the images and the images themselves is shown in the Search Results panel on the Outputs tab.

The Output tab is opened automatically in the Search Result panel after the geoprocessing is finished successfully. When a process will yield more than one result, each result will be shown on a separate Output tab.

The Show result button under the executed processes list allows you to reopen the Output tab for selected process (the same action is performed after double clicking on the process in the Processes list).

If you click the Show result button (or double click) for executing a process with a failed status, the button is changed to Get Error, and a separate message box with an error description is opened. Below is the list of executed processes, and detailed information about the inputs and outputs used for the selected process is presented.

Clicking Re-execute results in activating the Selected sub tab with all fields filled as previously. Now you can change the selected inputs and re-execute the process without the need of re-filling all the input fields.
